My 2017 Fitness Goals

My 2017 Fitness Goals

2016 and I weren't the best of friends. In fact, last year was atrocious for me on all levels; physically, professionally and emotionally, 2016 actually kicked my butt to the curb. So, I'm really really hoping that 2017 is a happier, healthier year for myself and my family. But happiness and health are all about the journey, not the destination. And sometimes, it takes two steps forward and ten steps back. Here are a few little everyday goals that I have started adding to my daily routine to help create a happier and healthier year that will (hopefully) be better than the last.

1. Movement
More movement, more health, more happiness. This means more walking, more taking the stairs, more surfing, more swimming and more general exercise or movement.

2. Vitamins
I want to become more consistent in 2017 with my vitamin and mineral intake. A daily dose of vitamins keeps me energised and makes me feel less stressed. For me, this is a must.

3. Kindness
I don't know about you, but I could always be a little kinder to myself. When people seem mean, nasty or negative, I kill them with laughter and kindness. Regardless of how someone else behaves, I'm in control of my own response. The nicer I am, the better I feel.

4. Meditation
2017 is the year of clearing the mind and adding a sense of calmness to each day. I've started going to meditation classes once a week and I want to become more consistent with this goal.

5. Water
Water keeps the body looking and feeling great, keeps the headaches away, manages my weight and keep my energy levels high. When I drink around 2 litres of water on the daily, my skin looks and feels more radiant, my immune system is on point and I perform better throughout the day.

6. Oil Diffusing
I've been using essential oils to add some joy and a sense of calm to my life. Different oils can be used for different purposes, and I love the way my home smells as well. Coconut and vanilla are my current favourite 'happy' scents.

7. Sleep
For me, sleep is the key to weight loss, having more energy, creating a better functioning body and feel happy everyday. And the sad truth is that 2016 saw me go through many, many sleepless nights, which was incredibly stressful. So, in 2017 I am aiming for 7 to 8 hours sleep per night.

8. Vegetables
On a personal level, 2017 is the year of more organic plant-based meals, with more leafy greens that contain lots of vitamins and a tonne of health benefits. I always feel better when I eat less processed meals and add more plants to my diet.

9. Time Outside
I feel that I need more fresh air and more Vitamin D in my body. Whether it's walking, surfing, swimming or just having fun in the sun with friends; my mind, body and soul need more outdoor activities, more road trips, more camping and more outdoor fun.

10. Gratitude
It's scientifically proven that practicing gratitude is good for your health. So, in 2017 I want to remind myself daily how grateful I am for my health, and all the little things that bring me joy regularly.
