The Top Trends Of Milan Fashion Week For Spring 2017

I was lucky enough to view some fashion shows at Milan Fashion Week, and maybe it was the city, maybe it was the collections, or maybe it was the opportunity to network with the blogging community, but Milan made me excited for the future of fashion. The phrase 'More Is More' is perfect for Milan Fashion Week, and I was lapping it up. Spring '17 will be a magnificent melting pot of glamorous prints, fun motifs, luxurious textures and a tonne of embellishment. I was overwhelmed with such gloriousness. Milan Fashion was everything and more. Here are my top picks for the upcoming season.

1. Gorgeous Prints
Labels such as Fausto Puglisi, Emilio Pucci and Prada combined and juxtaposed high-contrasting prints with geometric shapes, and the results were breathtakingly beautiful.
This will be big. Huge, in fact.

2. The Marching Band Jacket
Loving this trend. The high-fashion take on the classic band jacket will be the must-have item for Spring '17. Cropped. Fitted. With a light shoulder pad. Divine. Gucci added little bows and Ermanno Scervino added pastel macrame knots for a feminine twist. Loved these fabulous touches.

3. Parachute Details
Parachute dressing is now a thing. And I love it. Fashion labels such as Sportmax, Versace and MSGM, cinched in the waists of their dresses and wide-leg pants with sporty drawstring cords and parachute toggles. Totally crushing these little additions.

4. Micro Pleating
Micro pleats have made their entrance onto the fashion scene in a big way. Delicate, whisper-thin creases that show soft, fluid silhouettes are now on trend, as seen on the runways of Ermanno Scervino, Versace, Marni and MSGM.

5. Missoni's New Colour Blocking
Missoni takes its signature zig-zag colour-blocking to a soft, muted level for Spring '17.
And these pretty, subtle knits are divine.

6. Canary Yellow
Beyonce and the Lemonade phenomenon continues for Spring '17. This colour was errrrywhere in New York, London and now Milan. And fashion labels including Ports 1961, Emilio Pucci and Salvatore Ferragamo have featured a range of this insanely beautiful hue on the catwalk.

7. Nu Victorian
The Victorian Era is back, but with a sultry twist. Designers such as Alberta Ferretti, Giamba and Ermanno Scervino featured gorgeous embroidered lace maxi-dresses with lots of sheer panels, allowing contrasting lingerie to peek through underneath. Love it.

8. Billowing Shoulders
Shoulder pads have made a comeback for Spring '17, but with a difference. A softer, more feminine version with curved sleeves, and a downward sloping silhouette, was seen on the runways of Marni, Jil Sander and Salvatore Ferragamo.

9. Surprisingly Wearable Feathers
Miuccia Prada's fashion show made feathers sooooo irresistible and wearable for Spring '17. Trimmed along collars, hemlines and along the sleeves, colourful plumes are a must for the coming season.

10. Designer Denim
'More Is More' during Milan Fashion Week, and the Philipp Plein, Dolce & Gabbana and Dsquared2 runways were full of embellished denim. Luxe-brocade detailing. Charms. Trinkets. Motifs. Rose-embroidered patches. Rhinestone studs. Low-slung belts. Frayed stitching. Denim is having a moment.

11. Bags And Belts
Bags. Belts. Love them both. Bags attached to belts. Why not? Bag belts. Definitely. Jil Sander and Marni featured this fabulous accessory, strapped low-slung around the hips, or worn over the shoulders. It's all about choices in Spring '17.
