The Lauren Conrad Manicure

The Lauren Conrad At-Home Manicure

From her laid-back effortlessly chic style to her Californian girl-next-door looks, Lauren Conrad has it all. And this girl has the best tips and tricks regarding her at-home manicure routine. Being super-busy with a hectic 'always-on-go' schedule, Lauren rarely has time for an in-salon appointment. The girl is all about the good old-fashioned at-home manicure that are always instagram-worthy. So here are Lauren's insider secrets to getting perfect nails every time, without any of the hassles.

Step 1: File Your Nails Into Shape
Using an emery board nail file, shape your nails and even out any jagged edges. Lauren likes the rounded square shape - square with rounded edges. It's the perfect shape for everyone.

Step 2: Clean Your Nails
Lauren always starts with polish-free, extra-clean natural nails, and she uses nail polish remover and a cotton ball. You don't want to have left over polish or base colour on your nails as it will make your new manicure appear uneven.

Step 3: Gently Exfoliate Your Hands
Using her favourite body scrub, Lauren loves giving her hands a gentle exfoliation. This removes any dead skin and gives your skin a lovely glow.

Step 4: Moisturize With Hand Cream
Just like the skin on your body and face, it's important to keep your hands hydrated. The skin on your hands needs a lot of moisture especially after you exfoliate it. Lauren recommends applying a rich, luxurious hand cream to keep your skin smooth and wrinkle-free.

Step 5: Prep Your Nails
Next, Lauren cleans her nails again - this time with rubbing alcohol. This removes any oils of the hand cream from your nails and ensures that your nail polish will stay on longer. Plus, Lauren's secret tip is to use rubbing alcohol instead of acetone for this step, because it keeps your nail polish chip-free for days.

Step 6: Always apply A Base Coat
Evenly apply a thin layer of base coat to each nail.

Step 7: Choose A Colour And Apply
Pick a colour and apply two coats. Lauren's tip is to use quick, light strokes. This allows the polish to evenly distribute on each nail. And she also recommends letting the first coat dry before applying the second coat. It will eliminate those little polish bubbles that nobody likes.

Step 8: Let Your Nails Dry And Apply A Top Coat
After your nails have dried, apply a quick-drying top coat. Too easy.

Step 9: Touch Up With Acetone And An Old Makeup Brush
Brush off any polish that went 'outside the lines' with an old makeup brush and some acetone. Lauren knows that this final trick ensures a polished, professional manicure every single time. Just remember to apply some cuticle oil afterwards so that your nail beds don't dry out.

Yep. Professional Lauren Conrad nails every time.
