The Chic Low Knot

THE CHIC LOW KNOT AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

Diane von Furstenberg's Fall 2015 runway show featured lots of DVF wrap dresses, gorgeous lingerie-inspired slips and divine feminine slim-cut suits. And the models looked so stunning with their hair in a chic low knot. This simple yet stunning updo was paired with a fabulous smokey cat-eye and lashings of mascara. Loved it? Yeps, me too.

Here's how it's done.

STEP ONE: CREATE TEXTURE TO DAMP HAIR
Apply a volumising mousse through damp hair from roots to ends using your fingertips. This creates some gorgeous natural volume, giving your hair perfect texture, and keeps you from applying too much product.

STEP TWO: BACK TO YOUR BLOW-DRYER & A BOAR BRISTLE BRUSH
Holding a large round boar bristle brush in one hand and your hair dryer in the other, brush your hair straight from the roots to the ends. As you blow dry, aim the nozzle of your hair dryer downwards to keep the hair smooth. This knocks out any cowlicks and directs all of the hair to the nape of your neck.

STEP THREE: SECURE YOUR HAIR INTO A LOW PONY
Secure you hair into a pony at the nape of your neck and apply a little mousse through your strands. The mousse gives your hair some grip, which makes it easier to create the knot shape that comes next. Gently twist your ponytail so that it looks like a length of loose rope.

STEP FOUR: TWIST IT
Continue to twist your hair until it starts to coil into a bun shape. If you have long hair like mine, you will definitely need to wrap your hair around the elastic (like a donut). When you have 15cm (4inches) of your pony left to wrap, simply pull the rest of your hair through the middle of your bun.

STEP FIVE: SECURE YOUR KNOT WITH BOBBY PINS
Place some bobby pins at the base of your knot. Then gently loosen a few strands for a casual, undone look.

STEP SIX: CREATE A SLIGHT PART
Using your fingertips, gently create a part from the crown of your hair to the top of your knot. Finally, finish with a hairspray and voila.
