The Best Mascaras For Your Lash Type

How To Choose The Right Mascaras
With Cosmopolitan And Eyeko

Not all lashes are the same and finding the right mascara is like finding the right moisturiser. It's all about the type of wand, the formula and the application. The right mascara makes all the difference and can give your eyes a whole new look. So Cosmopolitan have done all the hard work for us. They spoke to Eyeko co-founder Nina Leykind to reveal how to choose the perfect mascara for different lash-types. And the search is finally over.

Long Lashes
For those with long lashes, choose a 'curling' formula and brush that not only enhances the natural length of your lashes, but also adds lots of lift. Long lashes can sometimes look heavy, so they need a 'curling' mascara to open up the eyes. Nina says"As you use your mascara, comb the lashes to the side to create a cat-eye effect, without the need for liquid eyeliner. Concentrate and layer your mascara onto the outer lashes, ensuring that you pull the wand up and out for a feline flick."

Urban Decay's Perversion is a fabulous super-black mascara that leaves lashes looking lengthened and voluminous without flaking or clumping. It's perfection.

Another great mascara for long lashes is L'Oreal's Voluminous Butterfly Effect, which stretches and extends your lashes like wings and gives them a stunning feline flick.

Benefit They're Real! Mascara is an amazing all-rounder that not only curls, adds volume and separates long lashes, but also enhances their natural length.

Lancome Grandiose Mascara has a unique brush that is super-easy to use. It works with the shape of your face and leaves your lashes lifted and fanned out all day. It's a must-have for those with long eyelashes.

If you crave long lashes naturally, without the need for extensions or falsies, I can HIGHLY recommend Revitalash. It is ahhhmazing. Apply it every night and your lashes will soon be uber-long. Try it.

Short Lashes
Choose a skinny wand with densely packed bristles to grab and capture each and every lash. Pick a bristle brush rather than a plastic one to ensure maximum length and definition. Nina says, "A densely packed bristle brush not only ensures lots of extension, but is also able to evenly distribute the mascara along every lash from root to tip."

Bobbi Brown's 'No Smudge' Mascara defines and lengths short lashes without smudging. Done.

A gorgeous mascara for short lashes is Dolce & Gabbana's Secret Eyes Lengthening Mascara. It has a slim tapered brush that extends and separates every single lash.

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Mascara is perfect for short lashes. Use the fibre extreme for extra oomph, then finish with this for maximum length, which we all love.

Straight Lashes
Firstly, using an eyelash curler is a must. Then go with a 'curling' formula and brush mascara, and roll the bristles as you apply it along your lashes. Nina has a fabulous trick for a long-lasting curl. "Just before your mascara is fully dried, use your fingers to push the lashes back for a curl that lasts throughout the day."

For some serious curling power, try Dior's Diorshow Iconic Overcurl. Its revolutionary curved brush gives super-straight lashes a huge boost, and its fast-drying waxes and oils hold the curl in place all day.

For extra volume with a tried-and-true formula, CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara is long-lasting and makes short lashes look thick and full. Furthermore, it adds lots of volume and separation. Winner.

I also love Rimmel London's Scandal Eyes Rockin' Curves Mascara, which lifts, plumps and curls every lash with just one coat. Love it.

Uneven Lashes
Erratic or uneven lashes can often be a result of damage from lash extensions or discontinuing your lash serum. So choose a mascara that contains conditioning ingredients which promote lash growth. Look for natural botanical ingredients like phyto-keratin and panthenol, and use a bigger brush with a tapered end to style and even out your lashes. Then flick out your corner lashes to disguise any uneven growth.

Josie Maran's Black Oil Mascara is a formula infused with nourishing ingredients that make lashes soft and lush in no time.

Alternatively, Maybelline's Pumped Up Colossal Mascara adds instant volume to skimpy lashes and gives your lashes a double dose of collagen with each application.

Looks like flawless lashes are finally here.
