Summer Hair Repair

How I Repair My Summer Hair
Here are the tips and tricks I use when I need to repair my hair after the summer break. After spending the summer surfing and bumming around on the beach, my hair can look (and feel!) a little tired. So, here's what I do to get it back to normal.

Restore Lost Moisture.
And the best way to do this is to invest in a good hair mask. After shampooing, I apply my mask and leave it on for 5-10 minutes to allow the product to penetrate the hair follicles. After rinsing it out, I turn the shower as cold as possible to seal the hair (which helps stop split ends). And if I'm blow drying my hair, I finish it off with a shot of cool air to further smooth the hair cuticles. These hair masks are the bomb: Goldwell Dual Senses Rich Repair 60 Sec Treatment, Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask, Redken Diamond Oil Intensive Treatment.

Prevent Further Damage
The weather is still warm so my hair always needs extra protection from the sun. With my job I am constantly in and out of the sun on a daily basis, so sunscreen for my hair is a must. I always have a bottle of Kerastase Micro-Voile Protecteur on hand at work and lightly spritz my hair to block the UV rays of the sun. I also love using Aveda Sun Care Hair Cleanser, Clarins Sun Care Radiant Oil Spray High Protection 30+ and Wella SP SunSpray.

Colour Correction
I get my hair highlighted every 6 - 8 weeks, so brassiness can be an issue in the summer months. So I use a colour-correcting shampoo to re-balance my hair colour and keep the brassiness at bay. I have on rotation Schwarzkopf Blonde Me Blonde Brilliance Shampoo Cool, Matrix Colour Care So Silver Shampoo and Paul Mitchell Platinum Blonde Shampoo.

Get A Trim
I hate getting my hair cut. Absolutely hate it. But at the end of summer I get a few centimetres chopped off to keep the hair healthy.

Go Easy When Brushing
Damaged hair needs to be brushed gently, especially if it's tangled. When my hair is wet, I always use a Tangle Teezer and a detangling lotion. The best detanglers are Klorane's Mango Oil Nourishing & Repairing Spray, Garnier Nutri-Repair Instant Detangler Spray and Revitafoam.

Use Dry Shampoo
I only wash my hair twice a week (MAAAAAYBE 3 times if I'm not too lazy!) so dry shampoo is my bestie. My all-time fave is Batiste Dry Shampoo (Wild) and Batiste Dry Shampoo (Tropical).

Love, Elle xo
