How To Eat Like A Supermodel Prepping For Fashion Week

How The Supermodels Prep For Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week 2015. It's the time when all the top models hit the runway after months of fittings, castings and prepping. Uber models such as Candice Swanepoel, Karlie Kloss, Martha Hunt and Irina Shayk all ensure that they not only look in peak form, but also feel energised and ready to take the catwalk. So what do the supermodels eat when they are prepping for a show? Here's the inside scoop...

1. It's not about how many calories you eat, but how you eat them.
Vanessa says that the models she trains never count calories, but always ensure that they eat organically so that the body stays in peak alkaline state. It's all about proper digestion and food-combining. Never mix proteins with carbohydrates in the same meal as it causes bloating and gas.

2. Start your day light.
Most models start each day with warm water and lemon followed by a juice or smoothie, which boosts alkalinity, gives you energy and preps you for the day.

3. Stay hydrated - but not at mealtimes.
Drink water throughout the day, but not as much when you're eating because you don't want to flush away any vitamins and minerals.

4. Don't snack on nuts throughout the day.
Yes, they're full of the good fats and are packed with protein, they are also heavy on the digestive system and also dehydrate the body. But a small amount of dark chocolate is okay.

5. Avoid these offenders.
Vanessa recommends to all her models that they avoid soft drinks, which cause bloating and cellulite. And also reduce your dairy intake as it inhibits digestion.

6. Keep your energy levels high.
This is super easy. Stay hydrated (water, water, water). Eat light throughout the day. Limit your caffeine intake. And get plenty of sleep.

7. NOW is the time to start these healthy habits.
Fashion Week is an important time to stay on top of your game. And the unpredictable (extra-long) hours and lack of routine mean that most models often break their healthy habits. It's best to keep eating well, stay hydrated and get plenty of sleep at least 3 months before runway time.

8. And finally mix up your cardio and meditate.
Vanessa recommends to her celeb clients that combining yoga, pilates and running into various fitness routines creates long lean muscles and boosts your metabolism. Meditation also balance and boosts your overall mood.
