Getting Gorgeous Hands

I'm extremely careful about the look of my hands. They're the first things people look at, they're always on display and they're prone to getting sunspots and wrinkles (which I hate!). So here are my tips on how I care for my hands and keep them looking young.

1. I use a milky hand cleanser with warm water. I don't like using soaps and hand washes that contain harsh chemicals. I also avoid overly hot/cold water which can dry out the hands. I love cleansers that soften the hands, such as Caudalie Gentle Cleansing Milk and Clinique Liquid Facial Soap Extra Mild.

2. I like hydrating my hands with creams that specifically treat chapped, dry skin and replenish the cuticles. I look for natural ingredients such as coconut oil, almond milk, shea butter and L' Occitane Amande Delicious Hands fits the bill perfectly.

3. Every week I soften my cuticles with Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil (amazing stuff!) and I use a scrub such as L'Occitane One Minute Hand Scrub to eliminate any rough skin around the cuticles.

4. I protect my hands from sun damage using a hand lotion that contains sunscreen.  And I avoid sunspots and freckles with L'Occitane Immortelle Brightening Hand Care SPF20 which contains bellis perennis (a daisy plant) extract.

5. I use a lotion that contains a retinol. I use NIA 24 Intensive Retinol Repair which helps maintain the elasticity of my skin and I massage it onto the back of my hands every night.

6. I smooth a mask over my hands and leave it on for 5-10 minutes to really penetrate the skin, then rub the rest into my hands/wrists/elbows. I usually do this at night when I'm reading, and I love Burt's Bees Beeswax and Banana Hand Cream.
